CD & DVD Duplicators + DLT drives

We can build stand-alone duplicator towers which can simultaneously write up to 9 CD or DVD+/-R disks. These entirely self-contained units are operated by a simple control panel on the dedicated controller module (pictured right).

The 1>7 & 1>9 units can run at up to 12x-speed, and the 1>3 up to 16x-speed.

For production runs they can be set up so that after each burn all the drawers open for the disks to be replaced with blanks. When the last drawer is closed the copy process automatically restarts for the next batch.

The source can be either another similar CD or DVD disk, or a disk image stored on the optional built-in hard disk. It is possible to build up a library of CD/DVD titles on the hard disk, copied from existing CDs or DVDs, and make new production runs without using the original disk. We usually install disks of around 120GB, which allows ~25 DVD images to be stored.

ESSENTIAL FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR PIONEER A03/A04 103/104

If you have one of the earlier Pioneer DVD-R/RW drives, you can download a firmware update to enable support for 4x speed recordable discs. The patch fixes a problem that could cause the drive to fail when writing to quad speed DVD-R/RW discs. Download the patch from here.

DLT Tape Drives

DLT 7000 driveWe often have available 2nd-user tape drives for use in making DLT masters for mass replication. Typically they are DLT4000 or DLT7000 models which can read and write both DLT-III & DLT-IV tape media, as used by most DVD mastering facilities. DLT drives require a SCSI interface in the PC and a full height 5.25" drive bay (twice the height of a CD-ROM), or can be housed in an external SCSI enclosure. Prices are typically in the range 100.00 to 250.00. Please enquire for further information as required.

Note - all prices quoted on this site are UK pounds - ex VAT & delivery

What we're about . . .      ZEN is not a traditional Audio-Visual dealer who started selling computers, nor is it a computer shop that also sells video editing systems. You won't get any salesmen giving you the "hard-sell" when you call, just straightforward advice and information - which for some callers is the knowledge that they don't need to buy whatever it is they thought they needed! Above all you'll be dealing with someone with a wide range of experience and knowledge of both PCs and video production. We're not the biggest, nor necessarily the cheapest, but we are one of the longest established computer/video specialists in the UK.

Company history . . .      ZEN was started in the 1980s by Martin Kay, then working for ITV at Granada's Manchester studios, who built his first 6502-based computer in 1979 from an Ohio Scientific kit, bought in the USA whilst working as a Sound Recordist on a film shoot for World In Action. With the advent of the Amiga, which could be gen-locked to a video source, Martin started writing a variety of video-related software. This included subtitling & tele-prompting, ident clocks, scoring software for sports & gameshows, and specialist software to mimic other computer displays for use in TV film dramas like Cracker, Prime Suspect and A Touch of Frost. Martin left Granada in 1993 to concentrate on his computer-video activities with ZEN, following a natural path into non-linear editing systems, now the main focus of the business, although he still maintains an active interest in video production.
